Salmon Bend Art Studios is pleased to present a special spring show: Still Life on the Farm, a collection of oil paintings by Patti Tauscher spanning the last decade. These colorful paintings of farmland, water, and machinery reflect Tauscher’s upbringing among the rice fields in Delevan, CA. Walking the land, the light shifts, a color attracts. I try and paint the feeling of that moment, says Tauscher.

Tauscher grew up in Maxwell, CA. Her father worked on the family farm established in Delevan by his parents, German immigrants. It was always a treat to visit the farm, she says. She left home at age 18 to attend UC Davis in pursuit of an Art degree, but, change of course, graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in US History.

She spent much of her 20s in the Bay Area, cultivating a career in movie production and post-production, and taking night and weekend Art courses. She moved to New York City and discovered oil pastels, initially drawing only on hand-sized tablets. After twelve years, I had large enough pieces to show at a Cafe and an Art Cinema House in San Francisco.

In 2002, she had her first show of oil paintings (Holding Light) at RiskPress Gallery in Hollywood. I had one year to teach myself to paint and produce nine paintings for that show!

Film work continued to dominate her life until she retired and moved back to Colusa County in 2013, back to the Delevan homestead, where she built a house overlooking the Buttes and the old dairy barn. The paintings in this show were produced over the last decade in that setting.

Patti Tauscher’s paintings are the result of unrivaled enthusiasm for life, harnessed to a determination to mirror her perception of the beauty, the grandeur, and the enormous heart of existence. Her paintings reflect her impression of abundance juxtaposed to time’s inexorable and relentless passing.
